Dancing Lights and Edible Delights

Last week the staff at Villa Finale got a special surprise: Jessie Kardys, niece of Walter Mathis and one of our board members, stopped by to treat us all to a pre-Christmas lunch.  The staff was quite giddy over such a treat from a special person, and also about leaving our computers behind for a while!  We decided to make the short trip down the street to the Guenther House here in King William where breakfast is served ALL DAY … welcomed news for breakfast aficionados like myself.  It was an enjoyable afternoon full of breakfast tacos, buttermilk pancakes, and incredible hot chocolate topped by a mountain of whipped cream.

We also had a chance to see a candy replica of the Guenther House complete with a San Antonio River made out of blue gummies and Santa Claus stuck in the chimney: 90 pounds of sweet edible materials were used to build this tasty abode!  Trust me, it was hard to obey the “Do not touch” sign which may have just as well read, “Do not bite.”

This past weekend, some of us had a chance to enjoy a stroll along the River Walk which is beautifully lit up for the holidays.  The boats full of carolers and luminarias lining the walkways only added to the festive atmosphere.  It’s nice to know Villa Finale is only a short stroll along the River Walk from all of this bustling holiday activity.
